Mission statement
Community Health Collective at UCLA aims to take a community-centered approach in ameliorating health inequities in and around the Los Angeles area through inclusive and sustainable service collaborations and advocacy. We seek to support underserved patient populations by working alongside community organizations, elevating diverse perspectives of and pertaining to healthcare, and connecting undergraduates to opportunities to work with and learn from patients, healthcare providers, and community members. Currently, our projects center cultivating social-emotional skills among neurodiverse youth, ensuring primary and specialty care to Los Angeles residents, and providing wellness checks to elderly populations.
What do we do?
CHC engages in service projects with local nonprofit organizations such as Child Development Institute and Venice Family Clinic to promote access and affordability to healthcare. In addition, CHC highlights diverse perspectives of health care through our Heme Sapiens project, which consists of our Heme Sapiens blog and Heme Sapiens podcast. Through our Heme Sapiens blog, we produce op-eds and glossary terms to discuss current healthcare issues occurring in our community. Through our Heme Sapiens podcast, we elevate diverse perspectives in healthcare ranging from those of students, providers, and community members to educate listeners on pertinent topics in health and community activism.
